Travian’s Current Player Numbers – April Update

There was a significant increase in the number of players on Travian.com in the past month

Last month, I wrote a post that looked at the number of players currently playing on each of the English-language Travian domains. At the start of each new month, I’ll update those numbers so we can track the size of Travian’s popularity and whether it’s going up, down, or staying roughly the same.

So, here are the current amount of registered players for each english Travian domain, and the amount of change from the previous month:

International Servers (Travian.com): This Month: 104,378 Last Month: 85,874 Total Change: 18,504 increase (+22%)

USA Servers (Travian.us): This Month: 27,602  Last Month: 78,521 Total Change: 50,919 decrease (-65%) *See note below

UK Servers (Travian.co.uk):  This Month: 21,222  Last Month: 31,375  Total Change: 10,153 decrease (-32%) *See note below

Australian & New Zealand Servers (Travian.com.au): This Month: 11,775  Last Month: 13,793 Total Change: 2,018 decrease (-15%)

India Servers (Travian.in): This Month: 17,773  Last Month: 13,833 Total Change: 3940 increase (+28%)

Pakistan Servers (Travian.pk): This Month: 1,593  Last Month: 2,593 Total Change: 1000 decrease (-39%)

* The number that definitely leaps out is that the US Server seem to have decreased by almost 2/3rds of its players. Or has it? Let’s dig into these numbers a little bit.

Remember, I’m counting the number of registered players, not the number of active players. And last month, the US server had a much higher proportion of players that were registered but not active. So I think the count last month was unrealistically high, and now it’s at a ratio of registered players to active players that more closely mirrors that of the other Travian servers. I messaged the Admin of Travian.us and here’s what he said:

I only really track the active player stats, and that hasn’t been jumping around too much. I can’t say why the registered players fell by so much other than perhaps S5 being taken out of service – but it was needed anyway, the ratio of active players to registered players was very low before.

I think the same thing may have happened with the UK player numbers, to a lesser extent. In any case, it will be interesting to see how the numbers change over the month of April. I’m still trying to get a sense of what “normal” is for Travian servers player numbers. After a few months I hope to get a general sense. These changes are definitely bigger than I expected to see over just one month’s time.

A Look at Travian’s Current Player Numbers

The number of players on Travian.com on March 1st

I though it would be interesting to track the number of players on each Travian server on a monthly basis on this site. This way, we can see how many people are currently playing Travian each month, and track that number as it changes over time. I’ll try to do this at the start of every month. (Note that I’ll be using the total number of players, not the number of active players, in doing these counts)

So, here are the current number of players at each English-speaking Travian Domains:

International Servers (Travian.com): 85,874

USA Servers (Travian.us): 78,521

UK Servers (Travian.co.uk):  31,375

Australian & New Zealand Servers (Travian.com.au): 13,793

India Servers (Travian.in): 13,833

Pakistan Servers (Travian.pk): 2,593

One thing that immediately jumps out at me – and that was partially my inspiration for doing this – is that the numbers at Travian.com are significantly lower than they were several month ago, at the start of Travian 3.5. Back then, there were well over 100,000 players (I don’t remember what the record high was).

Is it possible that there are less players now because the registration is closing earlier now on servers, leaving a steady influx of new players during the game? Is is possible that several players have left due to the introduction of Travian 3.6, which several players didn’t like? Or on the other hand, did a lot of new players start Travian due to high advertising and is this just natural falloff from that? I don’t really know the answer to any of these questions, but if anyone has any theories feel free to send them to me.

It also should be noted that the India Servers have now passed the Australian Servers in total number of players.

Finally, here are a select few non-English Regions and their number of current players:

Germany Servers (Travain.de): 116,170

France Servers (Travian.fr): 153,595

Spain Servers (Travian.net): 93,756

United Arab Emirates (Travian.ae): 304,524

(There are too many different Travian servers around the world for me to look up the number of active players for all of them)

A Reply to a Reader

I wanted to take some time to reply to a message a reader to sent me, because it gives me a good excuse to talk about the process of making Travian Champions a little bit. Here’s his message:

Hello there 😉

I have played s5.com server my IGN their was sabkasutta, and I sat for the account veen and took a WW. I m wondering if you remember..?

You have covered that endgame story very nicely, and I really appreciate if you will do the same in s2.in server.
Here people are playing with their extreme strategy.. which is no less then .com servers.. here from the unban of WWs. 3 WWs were 0 popped and one was chiefed.. and the game is going more and more interesting day by day…

if you will make mind of covering story of s2.in server.
we can provide you all the possible data that you from the start of the server if needed…

I wanted to contact you but couldn’t find any proper channel, so I’m leaving this comment.

Thanks a lot of writing in Sutta, and I’m really glad that you like this site enough to ask me to cover the S2.in endgame. Here’s my reply to that:

Short Answer: I’ll do what I can.

Long Answer: I would love it if this site could cover every single endgame that’s taking place on every single Travian server around the world. Unfortunately, that just isn’t possible. I’m only one person, and I do this site in spare time. So, how much time I can spend working on this site, including covering endgames is very limited.

I’m still learning how best to manage my time when it comes to updating this site. Right now, I try to plan on doing 2 new updates per day, but oftentimes things come up or I get too busy and I’m only able to do one update or none at all. I think one of the worst things I can do is try to overload myself.

As Neo (who also played on S5.com just like Sutta did) once said to me:

Your coverage of com3 and com5 endgame was rather impressive and I’m sure it took a lot of time. It would be a pity if you overextended yourself and caused yourself to burn out.

I try to be on guard about getting “Travian burnout”, which is quite easy to do because I also spend a lot of time playing Travian in addition to running this site. I think that during the endgame of S6.com, when I was also trying to keep up with the S7.com and S1.com endgames, which were happening at the same time, I suffered a severe case of burnout, and my coverage of the S7.com and S1.com endgames really suffered as a result (there were also additional factors that kept me busy that weren’t Travian-related). What I learned from that unfortunate experience was that it’s best for me, and for the site itself, to focus on one endgame at a time.

So, I’m really wary about trying to cover the endgames of two servers at once. I am already committed to covering the Server 2 endgame on Travian.com, which is already underway. But, I will try to do some updates about S2.in, but don’t expect it to be as in-depth as my coverage of S5.com was.

(I’m going to take some time off from playing after S9.com ends, and during that time I’m hoping that I’ll be able to be more active than I currently am on this site. Unfortunately, S2.in will end before S9.com does.)

I know that Travian is very succesful in India so far and it will probably only get bigger in the future, so I’ll try to cover S2.in as much as I can without overloading myself, but I’m not sure how much that will be. S2.in has a special distinction that really makes me want to put an effort into covering it: It’s the first ever endgame on an India server, so I definitely want to write about it because of that.

But, I don’t want to detract from my coverage of S2.com, so a lot of how much time I have to cover S2.in will depend on how much action the S2.com endgame has, and that’s not something that I have any control over.

If anyone wants to send me updates from S2.in, the best thing to do is e-mail me at 1randomgeek@gmail.com. I don’t always check that e-mail every day but I’ll try to get back to you as much as I can.

Other Travian Magazines

The Cover of Issue #9 of the Spanish Travian Magazine

The “Travian News International” magazine that all players on Travian.com got a look at yesterday probably came as a surprise to many, but it’s hardly the first Travian domain to get its own magazine.

The India Servers have had a magazine for about a month now, with 3 issues released so far. You can view all of them by following this link: http://forum.travian.in/showthread.php?t=3366 (The issues aren’t very visually impressive, unlike the Travian News International they don’t use very many pictures. Still, they’re pretty good and they have a lot of info in them).

The Spain servers have had their own magazine for a while now, and they’ve had 9 issues come out so far. Take a look at the latest issue by following this link: http://revista.travian.net/es/revistas/ES-009-feb-10.pdf (You won’t be able to read it unless you know Spanish, but it’s worth flipping through just to look at it even if you don’t know what it says).

It’s impressive that their magazine manages to be 48 pages long! Will the Travian.com magazine get that big one day? We’ll have to wait and see. (18 pages is very good for a first issue)

Travian is very big in Spain. In fact, they have more active players than Travian.com does!

Travian Holiday Truces

Many Travian domains have holiday truces during this time of year. This is a nice chance to let players have a break from the game an enjoy the holidays. Here’s a look at what some of the Travian domains are doing this year:

Travian.com: The international servers will be having a four-day three-day long truce over New Years, starting on December 30th and ending on January 2nd at 12:00 GMT time. Attacks won’t work during this time, but scouting will work as normal (so be sure to watch out when the truce ends, because players will no doubt be using this time to get ready to attack other players and plan who they want to hit).

Troops will also not starve during this time from negative crop, but your granaries will be emptied during this time.

Server 1 and Server 7 on Travian.com will not have a truce because they’re in the Endgame.

Because the International servers are worldwide, there won’t be a truce during Christmas on the .com servers during that time.

Read the official announcement thread here: http://forum.travian.com/showthread.php?t=131053

Travian.us: According to the admin of the USA Regional servers, there will be a Christmas Truce starting on either the 23rd or 24th of December, but they won’t announce what day it will start in advance. See this post for more info: http://forum.travian.us/showpost.php?p=1747887&postcount=62. They haven’t announced how long the truce will last for.

Travian.co.uk:

The United Kingdom servers will be getting a two-day Christmas Truce starting on Christmas Eve and ending on Boxing Day at 12:00 pm UK time. This was decided after they had a vote on the forums that was overwhelmingly in favour of having a truce during the holidays. It works similar to the Travian.com truce, with Scouts still working and no troops dieing from starvation.

Server 4 UK won’t have a ceasefire as the game is in the endgame.

The Christmas decorations on the UK forums are really cool. Check them out here:  http://forum.travian.co.uk/index.php, and also take a look at their new Christmas icon here: http://forum.travian.co.uk/showthread.php?t=54386. They also have other special Christmas events planned for their forums. They do an awesome job on those forums each holiday.

The UK servers also regularly have a truce during Easter.

Travian.com.au: The Australian servers are doing something a little bit different. They’ll be having a truce both on Christmas day and New Years day, but those truces will be only about a day long each. Read the official announcement here: http://forum.travian.com.au/showthread.php?t=8657.

On the Australian servers, even the games that are in Endgame will have a Christmas truce with no starvation. That’s sure to have an interesting effect on the end of the game.

The Christmas truce will begin at midnight Christmas Day and end on noon on December 26th, lasting a total of 36 hours. The New Years truce will last 24 hours, starting on noon December 31st and ending on noon January 1st. (So if you’re playing on an Australian server, don’t sleep in past noon after your New Years Party!)

The Australian Forums are also having a special “Twelve Days of Christmas” event, during which new things happen on the forums each day as we get closer to Christmas. You can view it here: http://forum.travian.com.au/showthread.php?t=8619.

Travian.in: On the India Servers, there will also be a Christmas and New Years Ceasefire. You can read the announcement here: http://forum.travian.in/showthread.php?t=2170.

Similar to in Australia, the Christmas truce lasts 36 hours while the New Years truce lasts 24 hours.

There’s talk that the India servers will also get a truce during Diwali, which is major holiday in India.

They’ve also announced that there will be a fourth server starting in India, which is great news for the people who play on the India servers and a good sign that Travian is successfully catching on in the country. The server will be starting on December 21st, just a few days before the truce begins (and it will be using Travian 3.6 rules). Read the official announcement here: http://forum.travian.in/showthread.php?t=2134. I look forward to one day adding the winners of this server to the Hall of Champions!

So that’s a look at what all the different English language Travian servers are doing during the holidays! Merry Christmas from Travian Champions everyone!

Some Site Updates

Before I get to the S8.com Hall of Champions Induction, posting my interview with Red Queen from PTT, and then trying to get caught up on S6.com and posting about Travian 3.6, here’s a few updates about the site.

By far the most important piece of news that I’m going to start covering Travian servers in India.

india-map-flag

I said when I started this site that my goal was to make a Travian Hall of Fame for the winners of all english-speaking servers, and at  the time, I thought that was just the International .com servers, and the USA/UK/Australian region servers. I didn’t realise that India also had english servers. They also have a server that’s in Hindi, I probably won’t be doing any coverage for that on). So, I’ve added India to the Travian Servers links, and  to the Regional Servers page. Right now there are two english servers there. India is the second-most populated country in the world, so if Travian manages to catch on there I’m sure there will be a lot more servers to come in the future.

I’ve also moved the “Links” section into the sidebar, that way it won’t clutter up the Features page, and I can post as many links as I want.

Also, I’m happy to say that earlier today I passed 60,000 hits on this site since I started it. Not bad for a few months, hopefully if I can stay active and keep attracting visitors, I can pass 100,000 before the end of the year. That sounds like a good goal to me.

In case you missed them, I made some Travian Champions Userbars, so if you like this site and you want to help promote it, add them to your signatures on whatever Travian forums you visit. Remember, the more people who know about the Hall of Champions, the more it matters.
