Weekly Rewards on Travian.com Extended to Com1, Com3, Com5, and Com10

Travian.com has extended its weekly award for the top climber of the week to Servers 1, 3, 5, and 10. Whoever is the #1 climber each week will get a 10 Gold reward. This was previously introduced on Server 8 as a test. The rewards will last up until the introduction of the artifacts (at which point the game closes registration for new players). On Server 3, which is the “Classic Server” that uses Travian version 2.5, the rewards will continue right up until the start of the endgame (which I assume is a sign that new players can also join the server right up until the start of the endgame – that’s the way it always was before the introduction of the Mid-game Artifacts in version 3.5 of Travian). With the addition of these four servers that are new to offering this award, all of the servers that are open for registration for new players are now offering the reward. So you can probably expect that this will also be included on future servers as well.

Click here to read the official announcement.

The player response to these rewards have been mostly positive, but some players have suggested that there should be gold awards for players who are the top raiders. Personally, I disagree. Some players are able to be the top raider every week, and they would be able to collect a free gold award multiple times. But top climber is something you can pretty much only get once – usually during your first or second week of play. This way, more people get to have the award. Rewards and prizes that the same player keeps winning over and over don’t add a lot of fun to the game. Also, if you’re the top raider, you probably don’t need any extra gold to help you out. But anyone who joins a server after it’s already been running for a few weeks is already at a disadvantage, so giving a little gold at the players who are the best new registrants will help even things out a little bit and give players incentive to compete hard no matter what point they joined the server at.

If anything, I’d like to see the reward be a little bit bigger. 10 Gold is nice, but perhaps if it was a little bit bigger it would inspire even more competition for players to be the fastest climber. As a competitive player, I think that anything that adds a little more blood to the water is a good thing.

Travian Champions Best of 2009 Awards – Part 2

Alliance of the Year (Single Alliance)

Loner (S3.com)

In every game of Travian, there are alliances that try to stand alone, to see how far they can make it without becoming an official wing of a larger group. There’s often talk on the forums or in game from alliances and players who want to remain independent from a bigger group to see how much they can achieve on their own. It always tickles ones imagination to see how large of an effect a single group of 60 players can have on the outcome of the game.

When you stop to think that Loner only had a third of that number of players, you realize that they raised the bar for everyone.

Loner from Server 3 (the Classic server) was only 21 players for most of its existence. If this group of 21 players wasn’t able to stay together and fight in the face of overwhelming odds, their side would not have been the victors. Loner seized one World Wonder, which turned out to be the winning one thanks to their hard work and never-say-die spirit. As a group of only 21 players, Loner was assumed to have almost no chance of being the winners by their opponents in the ART alliance, or almost anyone in their own Meta alliance, WAR-FWH.

Loner was formed when a meta-alliance named Elements broke up partway through Server 3. Elements had been allies with the Rangers Meta-alliance, but they ended up at war with one another, and most players from the Elements alliance either deleted or joined Rangers. Loner managed to stay on good terms with the other dominate Meta-alliances, ATCK and WAR-FWH. When Rangers joined with ATCK to become ART, Loner hooked up with WAR-FWH during the endgame, but were left mainly to their own devices and had to conquer, build, and defend their World Wonder by themselves for most of the endgame, until the unlikely scenario of Loner’s World Wonder being the winner came to light as the two evenly matched sides of WAR and ART fought each other to a stalemate.

No one would face the odds that Loner did by choice. Few would last until the end of the server, and most alliances in a similar situation would have broken up (I can say this from my own personal experience). And they just didn’t try to fly under the radar either. They finished the server ranked as the #1 Attackers and the #4 defenders out of all the alliances on the server. (NOTE: The largest player on the Server joined Loner when there was less than a week left as a sign of respect. I’m not sure if this would affect their overall standings, but if it did, they would still have finished somewhere in the top 3 Attackers and the top 6 defenders. Amazing for a group of only 21 players no matter how you look at it.)

Honourable Mentions

There are amazing single wing alliances in every round of Travian, and I can think of a number from Server 1, Server 4, and Server 8. If you played on those servers, you know who they are. But this was by far the easiest award to decide, no one even comes close to matching Loner’s amazing accomplishment on S3.com.

If Server 7 were eligible for these awards, then the alliance PS would surely be up for consideration, but as that endgame hasn’t ended yet they will instead be eligible for the 2010 awards. PS, with only one wing, grabbed the best artifacts in the Southwest, went to war with the dominate Meta-alliance in the Southwest, and managed to beat them despite being seriously outnumbered. Their skills are as close to legendary as you can get, and if one of the 2 World Wonders that they hold manages to be the winner on  S7.com, it will be difficult for any other single wing alliance to top their feats this year. I will definitely remember them when this award is decided for 2010!

Server 3.com Restart Announced

The Classic Server will be restarting on Travian.com on August 21st. Pre-registration will open on August 19th. If you enjoy playing Travian in the old-school style, be sure to check this one out. Click here to see the official announcement thread.

Server 3 will once again be played using the Travian 2.5 ruleset. Now that all other servers are upgrading to version 3.5, Classic servers will be more “retro” than ever. They’re the only servers without artifacts, and they won’t have any of the other 3.5 upgrades either. They will, however, use the 3.5 map, meaning that unlike in the last round, they will have 7-croppers and all the possible combinations of 5-4-3-6 villages. Here’s what the staff members had to say:

Tschena:I checked it with the techsupport and there will be also 7-croppers on classic – so the map will be the same as for the new T3.5 servers.

But the rest of the features named are only features for T3.5 (legionaries costs, and so on).

Blackpaladin: Back during T2 we used to have 7 croppers. When T3 came out they removed those but added more 9 and 15 croppers. People still wanted 7 croppers back, and so now they returned them during T3.5. So com3 as a T2.5 now having 7 croppers is more classic of a server in my opinion.

Artifacts on S7.com and Speed.com

This week artifacts were released on both S7 and Speed on the .com servers. I’m planning on doing an analysis of which alliances got the artifacts, which artifacts caused the biggest amount of fighting, and how the artifacts will affect the game. Look for it on the sight on Wednesday. In the meantime, you can view and early report from S7 here: http://forum.travian.com/showpost.php?p=1391840&postcount=3

S3.com Winners Inducted into the Hall of Champions

https://travianchampions.wordpress.com/world-com/s3-com-08-09-travian-2-5/

After a dramatic finish to an entertaining and exciting endgame, I’m very happy to make the winners of S3.com 08-09 this site’s second induction into the Hall of Champions! Winning a game of Travian is a difficult thing to achieve and the players and alliances who manage to do so deserve to have their names added to the history books, and that’s what this site is all about!

Speech from the leader of S3.com’s Winning Alliance

Travian Champions is pleased to present this victory speech from the leader of Loner, the winning alliance of S3.com 08-09:

Loners,

I am proud of each and every one of you. You all played a huge and integral part of what has occurred now. You stuck this fight till the end and stayed together with much of the server under constant attack. We all sacrificed villages to defend a friend. You all took orders as given and stayed the course, without question and without fear. That is LONER. We held the line against Rangers and we did it with honesty, courage, integrity and skill, together.

I would like to say that I never wavered, but that would not be true. Their were moments that challenged me greatly and their were times as some of you know I had considered capitulating to protect us and all of you had agreed to follow one another’s judgment and especially TwysT’s, Yme’s and mine. For that I truly thank you. We will see the end result of our one year efforts and the trying times of the past 7 months especially.

One of my favorite sayings is: “It is not the size of the dog in a fight, but the size of the fight in the dog that matters.” Loner was small, but skilled in many areas. We had the time to get to know one another and utilize everyone skills accordingly. Planning, strategy, diplomacy, attacking, raiding, killing, etc….

We designed our armies for grinding players down, very much like a wolf pack, not great huge hammers for World Wonder killing. I had three armies for most of the Server, not one. Cfgonzy had like 5 different armies, a few of them in the 15 to 20K range and one in the 40K and another in the 100K range. Instead of us having one big 100 to 200K army, several of us had 100 to 200K worth of troops, but split between three to five armies. We did not sim our armies as we were under constant attacks; we had to kill our enemies so that meant adapting. Being able to come from multiple directions, to fake out Rangers, to be able to afford to lose one of our army villages. I had armies in my capital, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, 3-8, etc…… Our army counts were very high, but not as concentrated as others. Half of us had multiple smaller hammers and a few of use had one solid hammer, and we used those to kill players. Never did we plan to be WW busters.

TwysT, Yme and I spent a lot of time getting to know everyone on the server: SOB, Cupcake, Redbosn, Angus, Caeser, Theatan, etc.. etc.. etc.. We may not have talked a lot directly to everyone, but we read posts, IGM’s, talked to others about character, motivation, etc…. “To fight against and with people, one should truly get to know them.” It helps in predicting people’s strategies, actions, reactions, etc… I never dealt with spies or pumped people for real information, the information I wanted could only be gained by discussion. When we had to we changed, went defensive, went offensive, support each other with resources, with troops, with anything.

Many wondered how could TWYST’S World Wonder win? There was a way, by not trying to “win”. By playing, by fighting, by thinking, by using everything we had and giving it our all. Those who know me know how I think, never try too hard to win, just try hard to not allow others to win. Play for a draw and have fun at it. See and love the frustration in the voices, faces and eyes of your enemies. That is winning

We held and now we all see what the end brings. Victory, one for the record books as thousands will not forget the name LONER.

Regards,
Virthkinis

Special thanks goes out to the following;

WaR-FWH (the whole gang, *** kickers to the last one)
Unite (quiet support)
Lena/Cal (Wild cards)
Petervle (That annoying creature crawling all over Jabba the Hut)
SOB (The real Cobra Commander)
Cupcakes (What the hell man? It was glorious)
Rangers (Being so much fun to hate)
ATCK (I was once ABC 404, never have I attacked one of you)
Gregthekid, dune-x, and Water (RangersE had to die, you scum)
Owlbearkiller (what the hell is with all those spearmen? Defensive Teuton, you must be joking)

Virthkinis led the alliance Loner to victory as part of a confederation with the alliances WaR-FWH and Unite. Loner had only 21 members for most of its existence. He was also ranked as the #14 defender of the game, making him the 2nd highest defender of players who didn’t hold a World Wonder.

Speech from S3.com’s Runner Up

Travian Champions is pleased to present the following speech from one of the leaders of the ART meta, which finished a very close second on S3.com 08-09.

All right guys and gals,

Let’s try to keep it simple: No excessive bashing and no excessive boasting please.

These are the final World Wonder standings based on the construction time to get to level 100 (correct me if I’m wrong):

1.- Twyst (The winner)
2.- SOB (ART)
3.- Kroegan (ART)
4.- Thetan/waggy/bibii (not sure which one is actually ahead) (ART/WAR/WAR)
7.- Charles VIII (ART)
8.- Angus Grim (WAR)
9.- D-Unit (ART)
10.- Wild_bill (ART)
11.- Wesley pipes (WAR)
12.- Zmago (WAR)
13.- Gods fist (Unite)

Here are my thoughts and comments of the primary actors of the server:

1.- The winner Loner:

Impressive and unexpected victory. They managed to survive Ranger’s assault during mid-game with every resource possible: Defending, sniping, counter-attacking, 0 popping/chiefing enemy hammer villages, asking for reinforcements from other metas, etc… Every single tactic this game has, Loner used it to survive.
Where they really excelled and what eventually led them to victory was Diplomacy. They are the living proof of the importance of Diplomacy on the game. They always were on good terms with the two strongest Metas on the server. Confed’ed with WaR while remained friendly with ABC. When the battle between WaR and ABC started, they didn’t attack ABC nor got attacked by them despite of the confed with WaR. When the endgame race took place, they barely participated on it. But, somehow finished the game getting all the support of the WaR meta, even above WaR’s own WWs. WaR and Loner leadership planned for endgame considering in all times that ABC wouldn’t attack Loner and thus, leaving Twyst’s WW unharmed and able to sim up for victory.
All and all, an unseen victory and probably the most incredible win on Travian that I’ve heard so far. Kudos to those dedicated players that knew how to dance and stay under the radar among giants.

2.- ABC + TK = ATCK:

The returning champions. Probably the most dominating alliance on the server. Strongly led by lady Aelia and Redbosn at the beginning of the server. Never really stopped fighting someone.
First they fought within the SW to merge all the actors there and dominate the quadrant using small independent battle groups of 5-8 players all formed by Redbosn and Slone. Then, they fought the NW meta using (geographically organized wings) and ABC’s attack team led by Redbosn him self which eventually caused the breakdown of that meta and the brief forming/disbanding of the “North” meta. Finally, with Redbosn AWOL the fights with the SE started. A council was in place but had little to none power/influence on ABC. Some wing leaders/prominent players stepped up and actively started leading the meta. A confederation with Rangers (ART) took place to balance quadrant domination with the other metas.
Since ATCK never stopped fighting, their hammers proportion was pretty high which resulted in being the strongest alliance offense-wise. Although some might argue that they weren’t as effective when attacking the other WWs as they could’ve been. The job was done and the enemy WWs were more damaged than their own causing WaR-FWH to actively give up their own WWs and to switch support to Loner’s WW. (Losing to Loner was a) bitter end for ATCK considering that, in their eyes, they were the best and did not get the final prize.

3.- WaR-FWH:

Without doubt, the best organized meta on the server. In any other server, or against any other enemy, WaR would’ve won this hands down.
Mostly new-comers, the pretty soon dominated their quadrant after merging with FWH. Firmly led by Angus Grim and a solid council, they were pretty much calmed in the SE growing their armies. Minor and un-challenging battles with Rangers took place during mid-game which allowed them to show the server their fighting skills and the size of their hammers. Special mention to WaR-FWH 4 attack team, it was a well oiled killing machine.
During the “North” disband, they picked up a group of 100-150 players from the NW including the elite players of that meta.
Confeded Loner soon after. During end-game confeded the last un-allied meta (Unite) that had no end-game chances due to lack of World Wonder construction plans.
Did an excellent performance attacking ART’s WWs. However, they ran out of offense power and both Unite and Loner didn’t have enough fire power to damage Ranger’s WWs properly.
Eventually realized that they had no real chance of winning with their own WWs and decided to go full support on Loner’s WW and virtually (get) the win.

4.- Rangers:

The largest Meta of the server. A “particular” alliance formed by a collection of players on the NE (and some in the NW). They ruled under the assumption that: “If you are a ranger, you are not a farm and you’ll have full support from us no matter how small or active you are”. Led by Cupcakes and SOB at first and then by SOB and Shadowalker, they managed to hold together those 1500 players for 9 months. That is, by itself, an impressive achievement.
Fought Loner most of the server and reduced the Loner meta (named at that time Elements) from 180ish players to 21.
Probably the most underestimated alliance on the server was a major factor from the beginning until the end.
——————————————————————————————————————–

I want to openly acknowledge friends and foes for an excellent server.
I also want to take this opportunity to apologize to all those ABCers that gave me the honor to lead them. I did my best for ABC to win this server, and I was always true to my beliefs. In my eyes you are all winners since you won ALL the wars you fought on this war game. I’m truly sorry we didn’t get the final prize but no one can take away from you what you’ve done and your personal achievements.

It was always a pleasure.
Thetan

Thetan was one of the leaders of ABC, which made up the ART Meta-Alliance along with the alliances Rangers and TK. In addition to helping lead the Meta, he also held a World Wonder City and was the #6 attacker and #7 defender in the game.
