Travian Magazine: Online Website and My Thoughts on the First Issue

In case you haven’t heard, it looks like the new Travian Magazine also has a website behind it. Right now the website is a little incomplete, but it looks like they’ll have a lot of content on there in the future.

The currently empty "Games" Section on the Travian Magazine Website

Here’s the link to the website: Right now, there’s not very much there, but it looks like they’ll have a lot of different section to the site, such as:

  • Games (You mean beside the one we’re playing now? Hopefully none of these will take a long time to play, I’ve got stuff to build!)
  • Downloads (For a Browser Based Game? I’m guessing these will be stuff like Wallpapers)
  • Community (Don’t we already have that at the Travian forums? I’m curious what they’ll do with this)
  • Magazine (This will handy so people can find all the old issues in one place. Of course, there’s only one issue there so far)
  • Links
  • News (Probably the same news that’s on the forums / in the magazine. Or it might be news ABOUT the magazine.)
  • FAQ

As I’ve said before, I think the magazine is very nice, and this website looks like it has a lot of potential. I’m really impressed by the hard-working volunteers who are putting this all together. Especially he admins –  Tschena and Phattus – who must have to do a lot of work as the admins (just having to read and reply to as many e-mails as Tschena does would probably drive me batty).

There’s also a Spanish version of the new site: Note that the Spanish version of the site has its own separate magazine: This magazine is also called “Travian News International”, and as far as I can tell it’s based on the Travian servers from Chile (There are 9 servers based in Chile, and 94,524 registered players, making it about the same size as The Spanish version of the Travian Magazine site also links to a the Latin America Travian Twitter account: All of the content in the Latin America version of “Travian News International” is original and none of it duplicates the English version, so it looks like the two magazines are unrelated except for the name and sharing a website.

Unfortunately I don’t speak Spanish so that’s about all I can tell you about that. Maybe I should try to learn it (how hard can it be?). Even if you don’t speak Spanish, their magazine is well-designed and has lots of pictures to look at.

Some other quick thoughts about the magazine:

  • It would be nice if we were given the name of the person who wrote each story. Most magazines do this. I’d like to know who wrote the story in the writers corner, who wrote the story about Thailand (or was it just taken from a website?), who conducted the interview with the winners, and who wrote the guide to the gold club features. hopefully the next issue will have writer credits.
  • There are some flaws in the layout choices. For example, on page 9 they put an explanatory note about what an “Anvil” is, but it’s right in the middle of the interview, between two questions.
  • Whoever did the crossword puzzle did an excellent job, in my opinion. Great choices on the questions, a good range from easy to very hard.
  • For the most part, I really liked the interview with the winners of But I’ll try to find the time to do a seperate post on that later.
